The beauty of literature is ever present in our world, but unfortunately, we often forget its value without even meaning to.

What Is Literature?

A collection of written works is referred to as literature, but it can also refer more explicitly to works deemed to be works of art. Literature particularly refers to works of poetry, prose, drama, and fiction, which include both digital and print writing. Oral literature, sometimes referred to as orature, has been included in the term in recent centuries; a large portion has been transcribed.

In addition to serving as a means of amusement and knowledge transmission, literature can also serve spiritual, political, psychological, and social purposes.

What Are the Characteristics of Literature?

The beauty of literature is that reading and studying it is already a meaningful endeavor in and of itself. Simply put, reading literary works by authors from different backgrounds, cultures, and eras of history broadens our perspective on the world and the people in it.

Studying literature also helps you develop critical thinking abilities that are useful in any field of work or in any area of your life. Studying and debating literature in an educational setting helps you develop your critical thinking skills outside the classroom. It also gives you the opportunity to ask insightful questions and start fresh discussions about social media, movies, and other topics.

My Personal View as to What the Beauty of Literature

Personally, the reason why I enjoy reading and studying literature so much is because literature lets me explore worlds outside of my own. Imagine being on an alien planet, a different timeline, or another dimension. There’s not any kind of media out in the world right now that lets my imagination take me to a place I’ve never been or meet other people and cultures I’ve never interacted with.

When asked: “What is literature for you?” My answer is always, “Literature is a means of escape and exploration, whether of a new world or of ourselves, into a part of humanity we aren’t yet acquainted with.” In my eyes, literature tells us more about humanity than any textbook can, for literature aims to provide us with a glimpse into humanity’s own stories, lessons, tragedies, and victories as it tries to capture them in its most authentic form.

Let Us Keep On Celebrating Literature’s Beauty and Its Value

The books and letters embedded within their pages are something that we should continue to enjoy. Sure, there are many distractions in today’s world, such as video games, YouTube videos, films, and digital writing, compared to the years before the year 2000. But we shouldn’t let them stop us from feeding our eyes with beautiful phrases and memorable quotes from a poem, novel, or drama.

Keeping literature alive is something that we here at The Lit Perspective hope to do. And with you right here, right now, reading this article, will gain interest in doing so, too.

Now, after talking about literature’s beauty, I’d like to leave you with two questions: What is literature and what makes literature beautiful to you?
