How Old Is ‘Too Old’ for Pursuing and Enjoying Hobbies

Whoever said that you’re too old to pursue and enjoy hobbies doesn’t understand how those hobbies held together the strings of your drifting adult sanity.

“You’re too old to play Lego.”

“Anime and cartoons are for kids.”

“You’re crazy if you’re still enjoying card games at 30.”

Stings, right?

Society gives kids a certain leeway, where they can enjoy many things simply because they’re kids:

But as people grow, so does the expectation of shedding everything they used to enjoy.

Some of you might have been told by your parents that you’re “too old” to pursue and enjoy hobbies. And I’m not gonna lie—it actually hurts. However, it’s about time we unpack the false notion of being too old to pursue and enjoy doing what we love.

Age Is Just a Number – Even with Hobbies

I think it’s just sad that the people we expect to root for our happiness are the same ones who will bring us down. They don’t understand how pursuing and enjoying hobbies makes us happy.

The notion of being “too old” for certain hobbies is subjective. It can vary greatly, depending on the person and the specific hobby. Age should not be the only determinant of what a person enjoys. Sadly, we must be conscious of what others think about what we want.

After all, hobbies are supposed to give us a fraction of the happiness that the cruel reality of life took away from us.

Age should never limit someone to pursuing their hobbies, which applies to you. It doesn’t make sense to let go of our little happiness because people think only children get to enjoy them.

I would even like to think that our mundane jobs are the fuel for pursuing and enjoying hobbies. In fact, pursuing that desire to play instruments or continue drawing later in life can be particularly rewarding.

How Old Is ‘Too Old’ For Your Hobbies?

If you’re still wondering if there’s a limit to pursuing and enjoying hobbies, it’s most likely when you’re dead. Don’t be afraid to live your life, pursuing and enjoying hobbies you’ve always wanted.

Or if you already have them, go ahead and be happy enjoying them. Rather than worrying about the opinions of others who don’t understand, let them be and settle with the peaceful fact that you are not harming anyone with the hobbies you enjoy.

Moreover, what they say isn’t your problem, trust me.

Like, our choices may reflect our character, but choosing what we do as a hobby shouldn’t be a cause for concern. You can still build that Gundam even when you’re 30. Play that video game you’ve always loved at 40. Don’t let others stop you from being into eccentric fashion at 50. We all get older; that’s an indisputable fact. Hobbies are there for a reason, and giving them up would waste your remaining years.

Personally, I’ll never understand why it’s such a big deal. Even in my adult years, I still loved anime. I read and enjoyed manga, and that has never stopped since I was a child.

I was also ridiculed for enjoying a hobby that no one understands but is already in the past. Now that times have changed retaining that love for my hobbies at my age is beautiful.

Pursuing and Enjoying Hobbies Is Not Weird

If you think about it, pursuing and enjoying hobbies all require one thing: money. Time is already scarce enough to enjoy them fully, and I speak from experience. I can’t purchase my games if I don’t have money, nor can I pay for my monthly subscriptions and buy merchandise without cash. As a working adult, I grind all of my time so I can afford to pursue and enjoy my hobbies.

That is why, personally, it’s even more weird to say that hobbies are only for kids, especially when these same hobbies can be enjoyed by kids and grownups. I mean, how can I afford to buy that Lego set as a kid who doesn’t have a job? Or pay for monthly subscriptions to watch my favorite shows and manga series? It makes more sense, doesn’t it?

Again, don’t let anyone divert your love for your hobbies just because it’s not up to their liking.

Additionally, you don’t have to conform to whatever societal norms that hold you back from your real happiness. Go pursue and enjoy those hobbies, be unapologetic about it, and wear your heart on your sleeve.

I hope that gave you the courage to pursue and enjoy your hobbies, regardless of age.
